Steps to Become a Student

There are a few simple steps to become a student.

Step 1: Contact the Literacy Council

Contact the Literacy Center to let us know that you are interested in becoming a student. A family member, friend, or agency can also contact us for you. Use one of the methods listed below to contact us!

The office is open Monday to Thursday from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm.

Step 2: Meet with the Student Coordinator

Talk to Paul Kelley, our Student Coordinator, about your educational goals. He will also give you a skills assessment (placement test) so he knows what learning materials are the best starting point for you.

If the Literacy Center does not provide the resources or training you need, we will do our best to help you find another organization to provide assistance.

Step 3: Meet Your Tutor

Based on when you have time and your area of study, Paul Kelley will match you with a tutor. At your first meeting with your tutor, you will decide together the day and time for your weekly meetings. Your tutor will give you the books, workbooks, and any other learning materials you need.

Contact us if you have any questions.
