How do I become a student?
There are a few simple steps to become a student. All tutoring and learning materials are free. There is NO cost for students. And tutoring is confidential – we do not share information about our students.
We hope to meet you soon!
Step 1: Contact the Literacy Council
Contact the Literacy Center to let us know that you are interested in becoming a student. A family member, friend, or agency can also contact us for you. Use one of the methods listed below to contact us!
The office is open Monday to Thursday from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm.

If you are emailing us, please make sure you tell us your name, why you are contacting us, and how we can get in touch with you.
Step 2: Meet with the Student Coordinator
Talk to Heidi White, our Student Coordinator, about your educational goals. She will also give you a skills assessment (placement test) so she knows what learning materials are the best starting point for you.
If the Literacy Center does not provide the resources or training you need, we will do our best to help you find another organization to provide assistance.
Step 3: Meet Your Tutor
Based on when you have time and your area of study, Heidi White will match you with a tutor. At your first meeting with your tutor, you will decide together the day and time for your weekly meetings. Your tutor will give you the books, workbooks, and any other learning materials you need.
