Introduction & New Tutors
If you enjoy helping adults and are interested in proving tutoring support in one of the Literacy Council Program areas, we would be delighted to have you join us as a tutor. The Literacy Council continually seeks new tutors, and a larger group of tutors helps ensure we can meet the educational needs of each student. Our tutors work one-one-one with a student for at least one hour a week.
- You do NOT need teaching or tutoring experience. The Literacy Council will provide tutor training and on-going support.
- You DO need to be at least 18 years old, have a high school diploma or equivalent, and have a desire to help others learn.
The process is straightforward:
- fill-out a tutor application,
- complete training, and
- be matched with a student.
Every tutor is different. Some enjoy working with the same student for many years, while others enjoy short-term assignments. You will select the topics you want to tutor and will work with our Tutor/Student Coordinator to match with a compatible student. We request that that you commit to tutoring for one year for one to two hours per week.
